Minnesota man charged with ramming squad car after high-speed chase By Forum News Service on Jul 5, 2018 at 11:11 a.m. BRAINERD, Minn.—A 38-year-old Pequot Lakes man faces six felonies for allegedly stalking a woman, fleeing from authorities and then striking a county sheriff deputy's vehicle. A criminal complaint was filed against Craig Robert Berg Tuesday, July 3, in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd for first-degree assault using deadly force against a peace officer, second-degree assault using a dangerous weapon, stalking, domestic assault and fleeing a peace officer. According to court records, on Monday, July 2, a deputy began following a vehicle driven by Berg, who was following a woman who had a protection order against him. After the woman stopped in a parking lot in Brainerd, Berg drove around her vehicle. The deputy tried to stop Berg, who then drove off. The officer gave chase, with speeds topping 85 mph. Berg's vehicle spun out into a ditch and as the deputy got out of his vehicle, Berg revved his engine and smashed into the deputy's patrol vehicle head-on. The deputy used a taser and mace to arrest him. Berg has prior convictions for making terroristic threats and violating a protection order within the past 10 years.
